Benefits of Using a Brita Maxtra Water Filter

Water makes up approximately seventy percent of the human body. It is responsible for cleansing our systems, hydrating our muscles and tissues, refurbishing the cells and carrying nutrients throughout the body, among numerous other tasks. The kind of water we drink is important - polluted water or water with chemicals and toxins in it can actually harm our bodies. Using a water filter can help to combat the chemicals and harmful substances found in regular water and is a cheaper solution in comparison to bottled water.
Water filters, such as the Brita Maxtra, are an excellent way to make sure you are getting the cleanest and most nourishing water available. Most tap water is treated with chlorine and other chemicals to purify it and help remove bacterium; however, the chemicals they use can be bad for the body and they do not prevent other harmful substances such as pesticides from getting into your drinking water. Filters remove the chlorine from the water providing a fresh taste without the strong chemical odours. They can also significantly reduce metals such as lead that can be found in some older household piping. This may help to prevent several different cancers such as bladder cancer, rectal cancer, and colon cancer.
The Brita Maxtra filter fits onto the faucet and filters water in four different steps to assure quality water. The first step is pre-filtration where the tap water is filtered through a fine mesh screen. Next the water goes through an ion exchange where harmful chemicals such as lead and copper are reduced. After that, the water is then treated to an activated carbon that reduces matters that cause odor and affect the taste, as well as removing some harmful pesticides. The last step is a final filtration where the harsh chemicals and residues are filtered away from the water, leaving you with clean, fresh tasting, and healthier water.
Consider everything you do using water straight from the tap. Even if you buy purified bottled water, you are still not getting the protection you would from a Brita Maxtra filter. You are still cooking, bathing and brushing your teeth, for example, with tap water, therefore the chemicals and pesticides are still being absorbed into your body. Even if you are not directly drinking water from the tap, your skin absorbs the tainted water when you take a shower, the foods you cook will still be cooked with polluted water, and when you brush your teeth, you will still be injecting the tap water.
Another benefit of using a filtering system such as the Brita Maxtra is the extra savings to your wallet. Buying bottled water isn't cheap and it can get tiresome always having to go to the supermarket to pick up more bottles. Plus, let's not forget that it is speculated that reusing the plastic bottles or refilling them with water can cause other health issues due to the bacteria.
With all of the health benefits as well as the cost efficiency of a filtering system to purify tap water, it only makes sense to take every precaution available. The Brita Maxtra filter is a nice choice with its four steps of purification and filtering to ensure the best quality of water with the least amount of chemicals and pesticides.

In my opinion
The Maxtra product is as good as it has always been.

The cost, however, has rocketed. Last November I bought 12 Maxtra cartridges from Amazon for £30, this October there was no offer on 12 so I bought two 6-packs for £44, an increase of over 46% within a year.

But this price is still better than you can usually find on the high street and they do seem to last quite well despite constant use with very hard water. Not just calcium, but our mains water sometimes also has excess chlorine which these filters remove successfully.
